Sofie Nevala Design - ORDINARY MAGIC

The task for this project was to create a visually expressive LP package design system using conceptual thinking and integrated design. I chose the work-in-progress album Ordinary Magic created by my own band, Rosemary Garden Gate, which features surreal and dreamy language to explore ideas of relationships and loss.

I went through many conceptual solutions to represent the imagery and meaning behind the lyrics, settling on typography and illustrations that represented the feeling of entering a magical topiary garden. Care was taken to anticipate how a user would handle the album and how the different surfaces interact with one another as the LP package is opened.

My bandmate, Star Mott, created topiary illustrations to use throughout the design. I used all of these illustrations on the front cover, and they each appear subtly again throughout the rest of the surfaces similar to a find-the-object puzzle.
